5 Life-Changing Steps to Overcoming Fear, Anxiety & Doubt...

Fear blog post.jpg

We all experience Fear, Anxiety and Doubt at some point in our lives. Even Beyoncé [or insert name of someone you admire here] feels or has felt all three believe it or not!
Fear can be so crippling and stops us from doing incredible things with our lives and walking in total freedom.

With 2019 round the corner, it’s about time we kick those fears, doubts and anxiety in the you know what and live life to the fullest!!

  1. Face it.

Do something you’ve never done before, something that forces you to step out of your comfort zone and keep doing it until you create a habit of doing so.

Before I knew how to drive I was afraid to drive, I would enter my driving instructors car almost trembling, but gradually I got used to it and got better at it and eventually passed my test. If I had not faced that fear I would still be a bus hopper!! No thanks boo.

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

  2. Affirm yourself.

Positive affirmations are so incredible because words carry so much power. Whatever you say you are, you are. So choose to declare over yourself the truths that you want to see manifest in your life e.g. “I am confident”, “I believe I can achieve all things I set my mind to do” and “I am brave, I am not a victim” etc

I personally also use Bible scriptures to affirm myself.

My fave scripture of all time is Philippians 4:6-7 which says ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’

Another amazing scripture is in 2 Timothy 1:7 which says ‘For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity but of power, love and self-discipline.’

  3. Surround yourself.

Surround yourself with positive people, people that have achieved something you’d love to achieve and people that encourage you to be the best version of yourself.

If you don’t already have those kind of people around you then you first must become that person to others. It is often said that we are an average of the top 5 people we spend the most time with. If you are constantly surrounded by fearful people that tolerate your self limiting thoughts, feelings or behaviours then you are likely to continue to be stuck in a cycle. You deserve to be free.

  4. Rationalise.

When I was much younger possibly 5 or 6 years old I used to be afraid of the wallpaper in my parents bedroom (to be honest it was pretty ugly). It got so bad that I used to have nightmares of this wallpaper! Eventually I was old enough to recognise and tell myself that it was just WALLPAPER! An inanimate object that could cause me no harm apart from being an eyesore! If I hadn’t gone through that exercise of rationalising, I would have been pointlessly crippled from freely moving around my own home!

Is your fear irrational? Try writing it down and brainstorm why it may be irrational. If you are stuck for ideas, do this exercise with a friend.

  5. Visualise.

    Let’s use our imagination for a moment…

Picture your number one fear, anxiety or doubt…

Now imagine total freedom. No Fear. No Anxiety. No Doubt.

Visualising a life free of the above immediately evokes peace. A freedom to do and a freedom to be. It feels good doesn’t it?

Just as words are powerful, the same is true of the mind. As a man thinketh, so is he.

I challenge you to try these tips and replace fear, anxiety and doubt with peace, confidence and faith.
